March has seen a continuation of training from the Military Skills Portfolio that culminated in a “final exercise” on the last day of term that included all the skills covered so far this year. The learners were asked to demonstrate their patrolling skills, hand signals, establish a patrol harbour, conduct a recce, shelter building, admin in the field, build a model pit, react to enemy fire, casualty extraction
and basic first aid. The learners also took part in inter-section competitions based on their PFA scores and swimming ability, as well as games of water polo and Swedish Longball.
Two learners at the college are both worthy of special mentions in this monthly newsletter. Firstly, Owen McGann, spent a week at CTCRM Lympstone with the RM “look at life” course and did a very good job representing the college. Secondly, Nathan Sharkey swam his first length of a 33m swimming pool at HMS Temeraire. During this month the following learners successfully passed on to the next stage of their military applications; Hunter, McGann, Nicholls, Birks, Strachan, Wallis, Baxter and Lewis.
Congratulations to all involved.
